The Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory invites applications for
a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Experimental Atomic and
Molecular Physics. The successful candidate will join the group headed
by Senior Research Scientist Dr. Daniel Wolf Savin, and will participate
in designing, building, and performing experiments utilizing a novel
merged beams apparatus to study the interstellar chemical reactions
leading to the cosmic origins of organic chemistry.
Required Laboratory skills include working with fast ion beams, ion
optics, ultra-high vacuum techniques, infrared lasers, apparatus design
and construction, and single particle detection for ions. Required
computer skills include LabView, Autodesk Inventor, SIMION, Mathematica
or similar, Windows, and Linux. Successful applicants will have a Ph.D
in Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or related field, a strong
background in at least some of the areas listed above, proven research
ability, evidence of future research potential, the ability to work both
independently and cooperatively with others, and demonstrated excellent
written and oral communication skills.
